Seoul Station Guide: Luggage Storage, Food, KTX & the Airport Line

Seoul Station (Seoul-yeok) is the gateway to Korea: the hub where the KTX high-speed trains, the Airport Railroad (AREX) to Incheon and Gimpo airports, and Seoul Metro Lines 1 and 4 all meet. But it’s far more than a place to catch a train. With luggage lockers, a great food court, cafes, shopping and even free exhibitions, it’s a spot where you can happily spend an hour or two before departure.

Full disclosure: I’m originally from Daegu and I travel a lot for work, so I’ve probably passed through Seoul Station at least 100 times. Whether it’s a trip or a business run, Seoul Station is unavoidable for me, so here’s everything I’ve learned, in one guide.

Seoul Station main concourse with travelers and departure boards

Seoul Station at a glance

  • Location: 405 Hangang-daero, Yongsan-gu, Seoul
  • Connections: KTX / ITX / Saemaeul / Mugunghwa trains + Airport Railroad (Incheon & Gimpo) + Metro Lines 1 & 4
  • Luggage: Coin lockers on both floors 1 & 2 (fit 28" suitcases) + City Airport Terminal baggage service
  • Food: Connect Place & Connect Terrace food court, gukbap, cafes (Terarosa, Blue Bottle)
  • Things to do: Lotte Outlets, SME product store, Culture Station Seoul 284 (free exhibitions)
  • Korea’s largest railway station: trains to Busan, Daegu, Gangneung and across the country

First impressions & scale

Seoul Station is the largest railway station in Korea, connecting KTX, ITX, Saemaeul and Mugunghwa trains with the Airport Railroad and Metro Lines 1 and 4. It’s always busy. Everyone heading to Busan, Daegu or Gangneung passes through here, but it’s also very well equipped for travelers.

The grand staircase: Seoul’s own “Spanish Steps”

The wide staircase inside Seoul Station where people sit and wait

My personal favorite spot is the big central staircase. Someone once compared it to the Spanish Steps in Rome, and honestly, it has a similar vibe. People perch on the steps to wait for their train, watch the crowds go by and see the trains arrive. If you have time before departure, it’s a lovely place to sit for a while and soak up the atmosphere.

Luggage storage (lockers on both floors)

Coin-operated luggage lockers at Seoul Station

The most useful thing for travelers is the luggage lockers. There are lockers on both the 1st and 2nd floors, plus several spots near Exits 2 and 3, the station office and the Airport Railroad passage. Sizes run from small to extra-large, so a 28-inch suitcase fits fine. They’re self-service and card payment only, priced by size. Exit 3 tends to be quieter, so it’s easier to find a free locker there.

Tip: on weekends and holidays the extra-large lockers fill up first, so drop your bags as soon as you arrive. The Airport Railroad’s City Airport Terminal also offers a baggage delivery service that can send your suitcase to your hotel or the airport.

Locker prices and sizes (station lobby, near Exit 1)

Every locker is 45 cm wide and 57 cm deep — only the height changes. A cabin bag fits the Large; a full-size check-in suitcase needs the Extra large. The base rate covers two hours, then it is charged by the hour, and after 12 hours it switches to a flat 12-hour block.

SizeInterior HFirst 2 hrsEach extra hrPer 12 hrs after that
Small30 cm₩1,000₩200₩1,000
Medium45 cm₩1,500₩300₩1,500
Large60 cm₩2,000₩400₩2,000
Extra large90 cm₩3,000₩500₩2,500
E-scooter180 cm₩4,000₩500₩2,500

Leaving a suitcase from 10:00 until an evening train at 19:00 therefore costs about ₩6,500 in an Extra large — cheap by the standards of most capital cities.

  • Arriving before 09:00? The lobby lockers are shut. Go down to the subway level and use Ttotalocker, which opens at 05:00 and has an app showing live availability so you can reserve a cabinet before you get there.
  • Dropping bags for under an hour? Lotte Outlet on floors 2–4 is free for the first hour.
  • Travelling alone with a suitcase? Skip the bank right beside Exit 1 — it is the busiest spot in the station and there is often a queue. The second bank, by the railway police post near the toilets and lost property office, is tucked into a corner, has far fewer cabinets and is mostly suitcase-sized. Much calmer.

Three things that catch people out

  • One use per booking. Open the door to grab your charger and the rental ends — you pay again to put the bag back.
  • No refunds once the door has opened. Check the size before you pay; the kiosk shows the dimensions.
  • You retrieve by phone number, not by locker number. The kiosk asks for a PIN and a phone number when you store, and looks the cabinet up by the phone number afterwards. It has an English mode. Helpline 1666-2098, 09:00–24:00.

Where to eat: Connect Terrace food court (my top pick)

If there’s one thing I want to highlight at Seoul Station, it’s Connect Terrace. The food court is well done: a wide variety of options and plenty of seating, which makes it perfect for a proper sit-down meal timed to your train. For me it’s the best place to eat in the whole station. The connected Connect Place (with Lotte Outlets) was also recently renovated and feels spacious and clean.

There are also plenty of quick options inside the station itself: Ido Gongbang (known for kalguksu and dumplings), hearty gukbap (rice-and-soup) restaurants, and a busy food court, great for grabbing a fast meal before your train.

For coffee before you board, you’ll find familiar chains plus specialty spots: Terarosa and, over at Connect Place, a Blue Bottle, so you don’t have to go far.

Things to do & shopping

If you have an hour or two to spare, there’s plenty to browse: Connect Place & Connect Terrace for food and shopping, Lotte Outlets (directly connected) for clothing and household goods, the SME Premium store gathering quality Korean small-business products (great for gifts and souvenirs), and Culture Station Seoul 284, the beautifully restored old Seoul Station building, now a cultural space with rotating free exhibitions (check seoul284.org for what’s on before you visit).

City Airport Terminal (a must-know for departing travelers)

Airport Railroad City Airport Terminal entrance at Seoul Station

Seoul Station has an Airport Railroad City Airport Terminal with a direct express train to Incheon Airport. With some airlines you can check in and drop your bags downtown, then travel to the airport hands-free (participating airlines and hours can change, so confirm before you go). It’s a convenient option for anyone flying out, well worth telling your traveling friends about.

Where to catch the KTX

The boarding platforms are long, so picking the right entrance saves a lot of walking:
• Entrance 2 → nearest platforms: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8
• Entrance 3 → nearest platforms: 9–14
Sometimes you still have to walk to the far end, so leave at least 15–20 minutes. For real-time times and platform changes, the Korail Talk app is the most reliable.

Getting there & parking

Seoul Station exterior driveway

If you’re driving, note there’s both an underground car park and an outdoor (surface) lot, but the outdoor lot is often full, so aim for the underground one. The whole area around Seoul Station stays congested, so if you can, take public transport (Metro Lines 1 & 4 or the Airport Railroad).

Quick tips before you go

  1. Check KTX times in real time with the Korail Talk app (delays and platform changes update instantly).
  2. Eat properly at the Connect Terrace food court. It’s the best meal option in the station.
  3. On weekends, store your bags first. The biggest lockers go quickly.
  4. Flying out? Use the City Airport Terminal check-in / baggage service.
  5. There’s a pharmacy on the 1st floor if you need medicine in a hurry.
  6. Shops and exhibitions change often, so double-check on the day.

Frequently asked questions

Does Seoul Station have luggage storage?

Yes. Self-service lockers sit in the ground-floor lobby in two banks near Exit 1, open 09:00 to 24:00, card payment only. Two hours costs ₩1,000 for a small locker up to ₩3,000 for an extra-large one that takes a full-size suitcase, then ₩200 to ₩500 for each additional hour. Before 09:00, use the Ttotalocker cabinets on the subway level, which open at 05:00.

Where is the best place to eat in Seoul Station?

The Connect Terrace food court is the standout, a wide range of options and plenty of seating. Inside the station you’ll also find Ido Gongbang (kalguksu/dumplings), gukbap restaurants and a quick food court.

Can I check in for my flight at Seoul Station?

Yes, but there are conditions. The Airport Railroad City Airport Terminal at Seoul Station handles check-in and bag drop from 05:20 to 19:00, with last acceptance at 18:50, and you must be holding an AREX Express train ticket to use it. Check-in closes 3 hours before departure for Terminal 1 flights and 3 hours 20 minutes for Terminal 2. Participating airlines are limited (Terminal 1: Korean Air, Asiana, Jeju Air, T-way, Eastar; Terminal 2: Korean Air, Jin Air), so confirm yours before relying on it.

How do I find the right KTX platform?

Use Entrance 2 for platforms 4–8 and Entrance 3 for platforms 9–14, and leave 15–20 minutes to walk. The Korail Talk app shows real-time platforms and any changes.

Is there parking at Seoul Station?

Yes, there’s an underground car park and an outdoor lot. The outdoor lot is often full, so the underground one is a safer bet, but public transport is easier given the constant congestion.

Sources & last checked

City Airport Terminal hours, cut-off times, airline list and the Express-ticket requirement verified against AREX’s official guidance in August 2026; AREX renovated the Seoul Station terminal in August 2026, so layout details may differ from our photos. Locker sizes and rates were photographed from the operator’s posted tariff board (Ubi Locker) at Seoul Station in August 2026; Ttotalocker and Lotte Outlet rates were checked on the same visit. Station layout, platform entrances and food-court notes come from repeated personal visits rather than an official source — locker availability and tenants change often.

Bonus: The Giant Cat on Seoul Square (Media Canvas)

As you come out of Seoul Station toward the city, look across the plaza for a huge orange-brick tower — this is Seoul Square, the former Daewoo Center Building. Its glass-and-brick facade doubles as one of the largest media canvases in the world, and after dark it lights up with playful digital art. On our visit, a giant cat was making finger-hearts and blowing kisses across the entire building — an unmissable (and free) sight the moment you step out of the station. The facade cycles through different digital artworks and animations, so what you see changes from visit to visit — you’ll likely catch something new each time.

Where: Seoul Square, directly across from Seoul Station (the orange former Daewoo building). When: best after sunset, when the media canvas is running. Just look up as you exit — you can’t miss it.

Heading south from Gangnam instead? Seoul Station is not your only high-speed option. Our Suseo Station (SRT) guide covers booking in English, hospital shuttle buses, locker prices and the car park that moved — and one thing that catches people out: a KORAIL PASS is not valid on SRT.
