Sono Moon Haeundae Review: A Lounge-First Value Hotel in Busan (Great for Friends & Work Trips)

Sono Moon Haeundae isn’t a glossy 5-star like the Signiel or the Westin Josun, and it doesn’t pretend to be. It’s a budget place to sleep in Haeundae. I came down for work, and the thing I actually remember isn’t the room. It’s the night my colleague and I ended up in the lounge, playing games way past when we meant to call it. For the right kind of trip, that lounge alone makes it worth a look.

Why Sono Moon Haeundae

Haeundae has no shortage of luxury towers. But if you mainly want a clean room, a fair price, and a good time with the people you came with, those can be overkill. The rooms here are basically business-hotel standard. Fine, not fancy. What sets the place apart is the lounge, and it’s a much better fit for a group of friends or a work trip with coworkers than for a romantic weekend.

Location & Exterior

The hotel is in Haeundae, which puts Busan’s best-known beach a short walk away.

The Lounge Is the Whole Point

The lounge is called “Lounge Moon” and it takes up the 20th floor. The first thing that got me was how much of it is free. It’s a big, open room with exposed-brick walls, long shared tables, and windows looking out at the water.

There’s a lot to play

Arcade cabinets, a PlayStation, a pool table, dart boards, a foosball table. If you’re with friends or coworkers, this is where the night ends up, and nobody has to cram into one room to hang out.

Unlimited draft beer

There’s draft beer too, unlimited for a small charge. It goes down easy over a slow game of pool, even if (like me) you’re not much of a drinker.

And the ocean view

You won’t get a sea view from a standard room, but you get one up here, and it’s a good one. Worth coming up just for that.

Gym and coin laundry, same floor

There’s also a small gym with a sea view (treadmill, bike, even a punching bag) and a coin laundry on the same floor. That combination sounds random, but on a longer stay or a work trip it’s actually useful: start a load of laundry, get a quick workout, and you’re still a few steps from the pool table.

The Room, Standard Double

I had a Standard Double. Fair price, fine for one person, a bit tight for two. The bed was the weak spot. Nothing terrible, just the kind of mattress you’d expect at this price, so go in knowing that. Mine looked out over the city rather than the sea, but it was high enough up that it never felt closed in.

Minibar and amenities

Two bottles of water, a kettle, some tea, a safe. Nothing extra, but nothing missing either.

The Bathroom

Small shower room, no tub. Fine for the price, but if a long soak is your thing, you won’t get it here.

Breakfast: Skip the Hype, Keep the View

The food was just okay, standard hotel-buffet stuff. The view is what saved it. The breakfast hall (Chef’s Table, on the 19th floor) looks straight out over Haeundae Beach, and eating with the water in front of you makes up for a lot. Buffet runs 07:00–10:00 and brunch 11:00–14:00. It’s ₩28,000 for adults, ₩17,000 for kids, ₩11,000 for infants, and they do have baby tableware if you need it.

Who It’s For

Book it if you…

  • are coming with friends, or stuck on a work trip and would rather not spend the night alone in a room
  • care more about a fair price in Haeundae than about a fancy lobby
  • want to be near Haeundae Beach for getting around Busan
  • like the idea of breakfast looking out at the sea

Maybe look elsewhere if you…

  • sleep badly on a so-so mattress
  • want a bathtub to soak in
  • expect a big room or 5-star service

Final Take

If you want a luxury resort or a great night’s sleep, this isn’t the one. But for a reasonably priced base in Haeundae, with people you actually want to spend time with, it’s a solid pick. The lounge, the games, the cheap beer, that view, is what I’d come back for. I’ve already told two friends headed to Busan to take a look.
